Name~ Michele Evans Name of Shop~ Bow Me Over Bows Location~ Plainfield, Illinois
Favorite item from your shop~
I really love everything I create! Actually I've been known to "throw away" anything that I don't like! Well, actually that only happened once! I must have been having a bad "creative" day! I do have to say though that I am really fond of my bitty bows because the total design started after a request for a "smaller" version of my boutique style bow! I also like my Swarvoski bows, working with the crystals inspires me to make "princess like" pieces!
Tell us a little about yourself~ I'm a stay at home mom, happily married for 10 years with two little girls, one who is 7 and the other who is 3. I have a degree in Elementary Education from Illinois State University and I taught kindergarten for 7 years before I decided to stay at home with my girls. I've never really had a hard time coming up with creative ideas, I guess that's just the teacher in me, but I never would've thought I'd be making little girl hair bows let alone opening up my own shop on Etsy!
When and what made you want to open your shop~
It all started on day back in August 2008, when I was recruited to make hair bows for my daughter's cheerleading squad. Well, I started researching how to make hair bows on the web, and before you knew it I made my first bow! Well, I thought "That was fun! I'll make another!", and so I made my girls Halloween hair bows, and I haven't stopped making bows since! My loving, very supportive husband even constructed a device to help me hold my ribbon together while tying off each layer for the bow! But don't ask me to see pictures of that, it's a secret! Maybe we'll patent it someday! :)
Tell us a little bit about your creation process~
Well, obviously you can already tell that I LOVE making hairbows! I buy all of my ribbon and embellishments personally and in small amounts to keep a constantly changing inventory! I love to mix and match colors, patterns and prints to come up with the beautiful bows you see in my store! I am a PERFECTIONIST, and all of my products are made with great care and lots of attention to ensure they last and stay beautiful! I've been know to toss one of my girls hair bows in my purse when they decide they may not want to wear it anymore (this is usually my 3 year old) and with minimal refluffing it looks great! Someone who has one of my hairbows even told me that the bow even "accidently" went through the washer and dryer, and all she had to do was reglue the embellishment on and a little refluffing! I actually got the chance to see the bow afterward and was SHOCKED at what it went through, and how GOOD it still looked! That was an awful lot for a little bow to go through though, and I DEFINATELY would NOT recommend it!!! Anyway, when you purchase a hairbow from Bow Me Over Bows rest assured that all the ends of the ribbons used are "heat sealed" and all clippies and bitty bows include a "no slip grip", and all products are made in my "smoke free" home! I gurantee that I will never send out anything that does not meet my high standards!
Where do you draw inspiration for your amazing designs?~
Well, I actually just shop for ribbon and embellishments that I love, and then when I come home I spread everything out and mix and match until I come up with exactly the combination that I like best! Most of the time the creative process happens over a couple of days, I go though all my ribbons and embellishments and decide what few combinations I want to make pairing them up, and then I make the bows later! This way each step gets my "fresh, creative mind"! I can't tell you enough how much I love both parts of the process, picking out the ribbon and embellishments and then the actual construction of the bow, because then I finally get to see what my creative ideas look like completed! If you could be an animal what would you be and why?
This is a tricky question! I would have to say a kangaroo, because then I could "hop" around quickly doing all the things that I get done during the day!
If you could have a super power what would it be and why?
Well, this question is easy! I would love to have the power to grant myself more hours in the day, without feeling tired, to get all the things done that I WANT and NEED to get done! I would name myself "The Fall Girl"! (Get it? Fall back in time so I can get more done!) :)
