Michelle Chang Jewelry: Interview and Giveaway

Today’s amazing giveaway comes courtesy of Michelle Chang, a jewelry designer residing and creating in Brooklyn, New York. Michelle specializes in creating delicate and intricate jewelry out of sterling silver and 14k gold, as well as the sparkle of diamonds. Michelle strives to create wearable pieces that are organic and will last for years to come. Her pieces invoke a sense of chic simplicity and her pieces easily transition from day to night. They are the perfect size to be layered and worn to compliment your statement pieces, but by no means do they fade in the background. They scream edgy style while still maintaining an image of girly elegance. With more than 1,700 sales you can tell that so many others have also fell in love with her designs.

Michelle has the technical experience to back her designs because she studied fine art and design in college and has worked many jobs within the design industry before finally finding her calling as a jewelry designer. She is so easy to work with and she encourages you to voice your opinion on how you want your piece to suit your lifestyle. If you have any special requests such as adjustment of chain length, most things can be accommodated so long as you are not too shy to ask. My favorite pieces are any of her designs involving the Baby Kittens which include the Baby Kitten Studs and the Baby Kitten Bangle. I also love her Branch Necklaces which come in many different shapes, sizes and combinations.

Tell us a little bit about yourself: I studied fine art and design in college and was an interior designer, an editorial illustrator, and now I'm a jewelry designer. I've been fortunate to have lived in a number of different places in my life including France, Denmark, Korea, Japan, and San Francisco.

When and what made you want to open up your shop? About 4-5 years ago, a boyfriend who was a watch designer wanted me to start a jewelry line for him so I started taking crash courses in jewelry, mostly in fabrication. I loved it so much that about a year and a half ago, I decided to start my own line.

Tell us a little bit more about your creation process: I start with either forming metal or carving a wax model. Sometimes, it’s a fusion of the two.

Where do you draw inspiration for all your amazing designs? I'm always looking around me and anything can be an inspiration: shape of a flower, a metal grill design, a fabric pattern, as well as other industrial objects and accessories.

If you could be an animal what would you be and why? A whale because it can traverse the ocean from high to low.

If you could have one super power what would it be and why? to be able to be anyplace in the blink of an eye because the world is a fascinating place and if I can see all the places and things I want to see in my lifetime, that would be amazing.
