Nicholas Landon Jewelry Review and a Giveaway!

Today's review comes from one of the awesome Ten Days of Giveaways sponsors: Nicholas Landon Jewelry!

Now ever since I was a little girl I remembered playing dressing up and always wearing my mother's pearls! I guess I just loved the milky lustre of each pearl and although I'm much taller now..okay I can't lie...a little bit taller now, my love for pearls hasn't changed. That's why I was so happy to find Nicholas Landon Jewelry, because they take peals and add edge to it!

Here is a description from their Etsy shop:

"Unique treasures of Pearl and Leather Jewelry featuring hand selected and hand drilled excellent quality pearls, cut and hand rolled fine natural or vegetable dyed leather, traditional, old-fashioned sailors knots and glimmering sterling silver are handmade just for you! Creating uncompromised quality pearl and leather jewelry at affordable prices is our goal…we want you to be proud and inspired to wear your unique Nicholas Landon Treasure...as pearls should be worn...always!"

Mickey who is the creative talent behind Nicholas Landon Jewelry is so sweet and easy to work with! She has always been the creative type, even as a little girl! Mickey made candles and decorated cakes with a neighbor, learned to crochet and attempted to sew with her mother, learned to tie knots, develop photography and work metal with my sailor father...whew she was one busy little girl! I guess it comes as no surprise that she eventually became a jewelry designer! Mickey truly does have her hands full because not only does she have two sons but she has two goats, two dogs, a miniature donkey and four cats!

Mickey can't take all the credit for the work, because her two sons, which she named the shop after help make each and every design, making this truly a family effort!I really love how they pair so many of their pearls with leather. There is something so modern with pairing the elegance of a classic like pearl with the edgy and modern leather. A very modern combination.

The item that I am reviewing is the Pearls on 70 inches of vegetable dyed black leather! Twenty cream freshwater pearls are chosen especially for your necklace and strung on a vegetable dyed black leather lace. . What I love about this necklace is that the pearls are not tied down so that they can be freely adjusted up and down the leather in order to create your own custom look! You can wear this is so many ways: a larit; choker; bracelet; belt; or eve a headpeice! All pearls are of the finest quality and they are perfectly rounded and each pearl is drilled by hand! That is a lot of work considering that they have to drill it just the right size in order for the pearl to not only stay in place but to be movable as well. The leather rope ends are not tied together to allow for customization and each end is finished with two barrel shaped accent pearls for a total of 22 luscious peals! This irresistible combination of pearls and leather is feminine, chic and ultra savvy and now that it is on leather, it can be worn anywhere...even at the beach and in the water! Like fine wine, the more you wear your pearl and leather jewelry, the better it gets! Le Lasso will arrived tucked inside a kraft box tied with ribbon ready for gift giving which i love since it's so convenient!

I was so pleased to open up my package because Mickey included a very special card in which she wrote me some amazing and very sweet things! And no she did not just send me the card because I'm doing a review, she actually sends each and every customer a card that is handwritten with as much love as she puts into her designs! Before I opened the box I could already feel the heaviness of the piece! I was very amazed by the quality of the product and i was quite surprised at just how heavy it was! I really didn't expect it! I really love how the pearls can be easily adjusted along the leather cord in order to place the pearls the way you want it to look. I have worn in so many ways already: a long necklace, a choker, a bracelet, a belt and even wore it as a headband! It's that adjustable! I just love staring at the lovely lustre of each pearl when I'm bored!

Mickey has so many amazing items in store for you at Nicholas Landon Jewelry! My favorite pieces have to be: Pearl and Leather Bracelet...Le Grand Fleur; Stormy Weather...Black pearls and turquoise on natural leather; Pearl and Leather Bracelet...Le Grand Fleur; Silver Moons Choker and Earrings

(The lovely peice I got to review, and the same peice that you can win!!)

And if you love the peice that I was so lucky to review you are in luck because Mickey is so wonderful to offer one lucky blog reader the exact same necklace that I got!! You have to enter over at this post please!!!

My Lust List

Summer is coming to an end and I am so in love with all the amazing fashions that are out there...I still want to hold on desperately to summer so these are a few of my favourite summer styles!

One of my biggest obsessions are bags and I love me a good cupcake so I definetly love this amazing Cupcake Crystal-Embellised clutch for more than one reason! This clutch is by one of the most amazing handbag designer Judith Leiber! Sparkly and pretty this would be an amazing bag for a fun night out!

Sadly the summer weather has been lacking where I live and often times you do need some sort of jacket for when the nights are cold. I seriously would not mind the cold if that meant that I got to wear this amazing Nanette Lepore Twilight Leather Jacket in Caramel($698)! Not only is the colour to die for but I love the cut of the jacket as well! I love how it is short enough to show off the shirt or dress that you are wearing underneath!

I love the look of the Silk dupioni rosette dress from J. Crew ($495)! While the roses may seem to be hard to pull off that is precisely why I love this dress! It really makes you stand out from a crowd and I love the look of textures and this dress brings it! I'm tired of LBD, because it is summer and summer means colour!!

Summer fashions are all about big, bold colours and statement jewerly! I love this amazing Multi-Colored Tourmaline Cuff by Jessica Kagan Cushman ($5,500). I love how the wood gives a nice neutral backdrop for the flash of the Tourmaline stones! I just love stacking numerous bracelets on my hands and summer is the best time to show off your statement pieces!

So what are you lusting over? Something that can be worn during the last days of summer? Or are you looking ahead to fall fashion?

Sunday Cuteness....is Back!!

Sorry I haven't been doing my Sunday Cuteness which seems like forever! That is why I have done a bigger edition of Sunday Cuteness today!! Hope you guys enjoy it!! And don't forget to enter all the amazing giveaways I have going on!! =)

I've Lost....My Summer!

Lost: Summer, very indecisive (especially when it comes to the weather), too short, enjoys strolls on the beach, making people sweat and being beloved by children everywhere!

If found please let me know! Reward offered!

I can't believe that summer is almost over! In two weeks time it's back to school! =( It went by so quickly and I sadly did not get to enjoy it as much as I would have liked! I only went to the beach once! And it wasn't even sunny! And I just realized that this is my last official summer vacation, because next year at this time *fingers crossed* I will be employed!
Working this summer made me realize just how much I miss being a kid, where all you were expected to do...was be a kid! Although I did make lots of money and gained lots of great work experience, the fact is I hate being cooped up and only being able to feel the sun scorching down on my back though windows! By the time I get off work there isn't enough to time to really get out and enjoy the sun! Which really makes me sad!
I hope you have all had a great summer! Hope you guys went somewhere amazing! What did you guys end up doing? I love that I can live vicariously through my readers!

Giveaway Day #9: Esightler Designs

I guess by now you have heard that my special giveaway event has been extended to ten days!! woo hooo! More giveaway goodness for everyone! I hope you are entering all the giveaways and gaining as much entries as possible! I'm so glad at the amazing response that I have received! So worth all the sweat and hard work!

When I first approached Beth to do a giveaway, I received the most amazing email! She truly made me laugh and smile! She was so entertaining and I enjoyed reading all the emails she sent me! She told me all about her vacation and about how she had a masked visitor who had brought along some friends! (They were raccoons by the way!)! Anyways I really appreciated it because I love getting to know my sponsors and how they work! seriously you are going to love her interview!

Her shop esightler Designs is full of yummy goodness! I loved looking through each piece as well as how her motto is "Life is better decorated" I whole-heatedly agree with that! I mean who wants to go through life all dull and boring when you can be sparkly and shiny? I love all her button rings which are actually vintage buttons full of rhinestones that she has collected over the years! I really love how her pieces are full of history and each can tell a story of it's own! Mm and I love how she models her pieces too so you can see how they would fall! Plus she's so pretty!

But the designs that I love most are her nest inspired pieces! There are so many handstamped pieces out there that celebrate birthdays as well as family so I thought that Beth had put such a unique spin on this trend! I have never seen a necklace where it is a nest filled with pearls that are in the hue of birthstones! Seriously what a great idea! No wonder she is currently nestmaking like crazy! She uses sterling and other wires and pearls in birthstone colours and whips them into necklaces and even rings! I really love the idea that this nest holds pearl eggs that are the symbols of your family and that their love can be symbolized in such a unique design! And you know what else is awesome? She oxidizes her jewelry using eggs from her own chickens! So you really are getting eggs in so many different aspects!

Here is her interview:

Name: Elizabeth Mead Sightler
Name of shop: esightler Designs
Location: Lovely, lakeside Burlington, Vermont

Favourite item from your shop:
http://www.etsy.com/view_listing.php?listing_id=28993883 Right now I am enchanted with the idea behind the "A Room of One's Own" nest. It is a nest necklace made of a light gauge copper wire and a single sapphire colored freshwater pearl. The name is from the Virginia Woolf book of the same name and it related to how important it is for women to have their own space. Her book was about being alone to write, and I see this meaning to include all those stolen moments that women deserve, when we are alone to create and not take care of others. Also, this particular design was inspired by a woman who was leaving a hometown to go out on her own. She was feeling lonely and homesick, so I came up with the idea that - in a sense - she could bring it with her. Her birthday is in September, thus the sapphire. Her big brother commissioned it for her, which I thought was so tender.

Tell us a little more about yourself:

My friends call me Beth (please do!) and I live in the beautiful Green Mountain State of Vermont. I work as a social worker, and went to school to study Studio Art/Environmentalism - which is sort of social work, too I suppose - if it's done well.

I have worked as a bicycle courier, a woodenboat restorer, a baker...and a plethora of other quirky and fun jobs along the way. I love wind and at one point a former partner and I had seven motorcycles - including the one in the kitchen we were rebuilding - in various states of functionality. I like to run. I like to dance. I like to sing - but my husband tells me I shouldn't do it too much outside the home.

I drag my artists heart through everything I do and designing jewelry provides a foundation for my self-indulgent self-expression...and I am unapologetic about that. Being able to unleash creatively helps me to behave much better out there in the real world where I am a consummate professional by day...and something entirely different by the light of the moon. Shhhhh...

I have been painting and printmaking and drawing forever and come from a family where art was a given. My mother is a silhouette artist and my father is a painter and woodsman. About two years ago I started making jewelry - for myself and for friends - but it became compulsive. Now I lie awake at night designing pieces and lining up colors and textures to glow and try to decorate this life just a little more. I understand - with my heart - that jewelry has the power to evoke a special time, whether it's sentimental, joyous or even tender. Being asked to design something that honors this is my strongest and most valuable work. I am still so grateful for this journey.

I have 4 boys, a delicious husband and I have never had a motorcycle license.

When and what made you want to open up your shop?
I heard about selling online in different venues from a friend who is an artist. My husband signed me up (ah....foolish, foolish man...) and onc e I listed my first item I was completely enraptured...that was three years ago...I think, I have lost track of time.

Tell us a little bit more about your creation process:
It is constant. I engage in life and am open to experiences a s they come. I am inspired by poems, and art and songs. For me this translation - into a two-dimensional medium - just works for me now. Staying open and not being encumbered by the "business" aspects of this work is my most challenging tension. I carry jewelry making designs everywhere...EVERYWHERE. My desk, my friends homes, vacation...you name it and I have my tools and latest findings that pique my interest. MY friends and family are very supportive, or forgiving...so far.

Where do you draw inspiration for all your amazing designs?
Mostly from women and their deep, loving hearts. I try to make pieces that are bold enough to be whimsical, different and wearable. And not fussy and/or self-indulgent ( I HATE that). I love to look at Jewelry and am often inspired by other artist and use their designs as jumping off points. It's so important for us to support each other and to bolster each other's creativity.

If you could be an animal what would you be and why?
House cats have it made (well ours does, at any rate), dolphins seems pretty happy but we keep hitting them with boats and catching them in nets - to that would sure dampen that lifetime. I love crows, not ravens like bonefide artsy folks would say, but everyday crows. They always seem to be chattering on, they play in the snow...and they are fiercely protective of their young - like me. I think I'll have to go with the corvids.

If you could have one super power what would it be and why?
Well, I would hate for anything that seems so precious and impossible to become ordinary to be...I mean, wouldn't it be sad if reading each others minds became blase, or turning things to ice was ho-hum? I think I would go with time-travel because authenticating genuine antiques would be so cool. And I would like to go back and figure out what the heck happened at Roanoke! Is time travel a superpower? It must be...it's super AND powerful, right?

Giveaway Day #8: Nicholas Landon Jewelry

Wow can't believe it is already Day 8! I realize that putting on a giveaway everyday is hard work! I know that there are some blogs that feature a giveaway every single day, but I have no clue how they do it! I would be so pooped!

Today's giveaway comes from a very special shop on etsy: Nicholas Landon Jewelry. I was supposed to do the review first but I was just way too excited to post this giveaway up and include it in my Eight Days of Giveaways Event!

Now ever since I was a little girl I remembered playing dressing up and always wearing my mother's pearls! I guess I just loved the milky lusture of each pearl and although I'm much taller now..okay I can't lie...a little bit taller now, my love for pearls hasn't changed. That's why I was so happy to find Nicholas Landon Jewelry, because they take peals and add edge to it!

Here is a desciption from their Etsy shop:

The leather rope ends are not tied together to allow for customization and each end is finished with two barrel shaped accent pearls for a total of 22 lucious peals!

Let us get to know her better through her interview:

Name: Michel Johnson
Name of shop: Nicholas Landon Jewelry
Location: for now, Texas.

Favourite item from your shop: That is hard to say…I wear almost all the bracelets all the time and several necklaces…I believe the more pearls the better don’t you know, but if I had to pick a favourite I think it would be Iona…the sterling silver Celtic cross with a pearl.

Tell us a little bit about yourself:

My name is Michel or Mickey, whichever you prefer. I have two boys, which is where the name for our shop comes from and my honey is, Ran. We currently live in a wonderful bluebonnet covered farm community that is between the big cities of Houston and the capitol of Texas, Austin. I was once a teacher, a counselor, and many other things in between. At this moment, I think I am where I am supposed to be...spending time with my boys, enjoying each day of our lives and working side by side creating nautical inspired pearl and leather jewelry. I have a heritage with the sea that our jewelry resonates and reflects with each piece that is created. My father was a sailor, as was my Grandfather, as was his father. I have many a fond memory of sitting and listening to tales of adventures on the high seas and of lands far away. “The Olde Crows Nest” as it was called, was my Grandparents beach house. Besides nearly being my home, it was a place to fish, surf, go boating, crab and play cards...a place to leave everything else behind, to connect with family and gain energy from the sea and its magical bounty. We don’t live near enough to the sea as I should like to be, but it is ingrained in my soul none the less. Someday, I will return to the crashing of waves, the fine salt air disguised in a thick dense fog and the soft sand beneath my feet that secretly harbors’ beckoning treasures…until then; I will live where I am, make nautical inspired pearl and leather jewelry and count my very many blessings.“If you want to build a ship, don't drum up people together to collect wood and assign tasks and work; rather, teach them to long for the endless immensity of the sea”...~Antoine de Saint-Exupery~...

What do you consider to be your greatest accomplishment? My family...they are like nothing else in life to me.

When and what made you want to open up your shop? We opened our shop January 4, 2009. We had been selling jewelry locally and decided to try and utilize the internet to see if growing our jewelry business was something we wanted to do. I had been a buyer on etsy up to that time. I say we because my two boys are part of the business. My oldest is the official pearl driller and my youngest is the one who works the leather. Anyway, we are really pleased with the response we have received and have really enjoyed getting to meet many new people through the process.

Tell us a little bit more about your creation process: I wish my creative process kept normal hours, but usually a design will hit me late at night. I usually have to get up and either create it or draw it. I usually run it by the boys and they either approve it, tweak it or totally axe it. The youngest is really good about axing some ideas! He is probably my hardest critic, but he has wonderful ideas too. My oldest is more of the tweaker. He is singlehandedly the one responsible for the pearls that are drilled extra wide to accommodate two strands of leather. He really likes that look and has tweaked many designs to include the sliding pearl.

Where do you draw inspiration for all your amazing designs? …the ocean and nature as well as our faith. I like really earthy and organic things, but the sea and our Celtic faith calls to me in all of our designs.

If you could be an animal what would you be and why? …a Selkie. I would love to be of the seal-folk and be a human when I choose. That way I could live in the sea and visit land from time to time.

If you could have one super power what would it be and why? I wish I could breathe under water…that would be too cool!

Giveaway Day #7: Lauren Nicole Gifts

Welcome to Day Number Seven of My Eight Days of Giveaways Event! Liking it so far? Hope you are!! Our giveaway today comes from a great company: Lauren Nicole Gifts!

(Yes, Denise monogramed all that!!!)

I was so lucky to be able to do a review for the amazing company Lauren Nicole Gifts. Lauren Nicole Gifts was founded by Denise who was a former accountant that realized that she preferred monogramming beans rather than counting them. But long before she became an accountant she always had a childhood dream to become a "sew-er" but being told that she would never make any money doing that, she had to choose a different profession. Guess she proved them wrong!

Denise finds great passion in creating and designing jewelry and that extends to other products. She now finds herself running a very busy company that monograms almost anything to think of! Seriously if you can think of it, it can be monogrammed! If your wondering where the name Lauren Nicole Gifts came from she named the company after her niece (How sweet!)Denise lovingly hand makes and/or monograms 100% of the products on the retail site and wholesale jewelry website; and her husband, Brian helps her with all the shipping. About 90% of the website is made up of Denise's original designs. Denise also buys some blank items from a few small companies and then monograms them.

I was so lucky to be sent the Fine Silver Way Seal Pendant with Micro Fiber Cord in hot pink! I decided to customize it using my initial N and to pair it with a beautiful freshwater pearl. I was very excited to receive my necklace and grew even more excited when I opened up the package! All of the jewelry that comes from Lauren Nicole Gifts comes beautiful wrapped in the most amazing jewelry tin that is covered with amazing Lily Pulitzer fabric and then another organza drawstring bag! I have received tons of jewelry as you can very well imagine and I have to say that I was very very impressed with the presentation!

When I opened up the tin and took the necklace out of the tissue paper I fell in love! Each of the pieces in Lauren Nicole Gifts' Wax Seal Jewelry line is made in Denise's studio by hand-casting fine silver with wax seal stamps. Each pendant is unique and has the look of a hand stamped wax seal. Each pendant is made with an antique finish to give it a classic old world look. For those of you who are not sure what fine silver is: Fine silver is a slightly higher grade than sterling silver. Sterling silver is .925 silver and fine silver is .999 silver.

I loved how the pendant looked, it really looked unique and that it was a family heirloom that was passed down though generation. It was a great size and it had such a great weight too, so that you didn't have to worry about the necklace being flimsy at all. I really love how the pearl nicely contrasted with the necklace and added another element of elegance to the necklace! I have received many comments from family and friends about how pretty my necklace is, and I have been layering it with other necklaces as well! Please check out what other amazing goodies Denise has in store for you at Lauren Nicole Gifts! They have monogrammed baby blankets, stuffed animals, coffee mugs, slippers, wraps and soo soo so much more!

The Giveaway:

Denise was so generous to give one of my very lucky readers the exact same necklace that I got to review! That means you get to personalize your necklace to suit what you like! You get your choice of inital which will be wax sealed with fine silver, your choice of crystal or you can do a freshwater pearl like I did, and it will be hung on a suede cord in your choice of colour!

This necklace is valued at $44!!

How to Enter:

1) Head on over to Lauren Nicole Gifts and find something else that you love for one point
2) Visit Denise on her blog and leave her a comment on any post for two more points! (Please let me know which one!) Denise's blog is lovely and as an added bonus she also has tons of great giveaways going on every week!
3) If you are a new blog follower I'll welcome you with four extra entries!!
4) If you are a loyal blog follower you guys rock! (And no I am not biased) you get six extra entries!
5) If you blog about this giveaway with a link to the giveaway post, a link to Lauren Nicole Gifts (http://www.laurennicolegifts.com/) and tell your readers about my Giveaway event! If you do so and leave a link I'll give you five extra entries!

7) If you purchase anything from Lauren Nicole Gifts you get ten extra entries!
8) If you enter any one of my current giveaways (found on the top right side) you get one extra entry for each giveaway!
