Time Just Flies By

Woah I just realized that it's exactly a week until my birthday! Time just flies by so quickly! It seems just like yesterday that I was celebrating my 21st birthday!

This year I'll be turning 22 which is cool because my birthday is February 2nd which is 02/02 or 2/2 so I'll be turning 22 on 2/2! My champagne birthday as I like to call it, even though my boyfriend said that it happened on my 2nd birthday. I just think he's jealous that my birthday is so cool although his birthday is on 01/23 which also happens to be my moms!

I guess this is a good time to reflect on everything I have done this year and what I hope to accomplish as well! I can't believe that in a few short months (three months to be exact) I'll be graduating university! And I'll be thrust into the scary big reality of the real world! I'm at the point where I'm stuck wishing that moment would come but at the same time desperately holding on to what I know and what is safe.

Although this birthday won't be as big as the 21st one it still holds a huge milestone in my life! So the question is what is the big milestone that has occurred this year in your life? Got married, had a baby, got a new job? Whatever it is, it's all a cause for celebration and a nice old pat on the back! =)

A Good Talk Book Review

You do it, I do it, in fact we all do it. Okay maybe hermits or nuns who have taken a vow of silence don't do it, but the fact remains that the art of human conversation is one that we all possess and one that we use frequently in our daily lives. But have you ever stopped to really think about what talking is all about or even how it originated and progressed through out the ages? With the rising growth of email and text messages it seems that we as a generation are becoming more inclined to talk to a screen than to actually conduct a conversation face to face.

Information about the Book:

A GOOD TALK is an analysis of and guide to that most exclusively human of all activities-- conversation.

Drawing on over forty years of experience in American letters, Menaker pinpoints the factors that drive and enliven every good conversation: the vagaries (and joys) of subtext; the deeper structure and meaning of conversational flow; the subliminal signals that guide our disclosures and confessions; and the countless other hurdles we must clear along the way. Moving beyond self-help musings and "how to" advice, he has created a stylish, funny, and surprising book: a celebration of "the most exclusively human of all activities."

In a time when conversation remains deeply important-- for building relationships, for relaxing, even for figuring out who we are-- and also increasingly imperiled (with Blackberries and texting increasingly in vogue), A GOOD TALK is a refreshing celebration of the subtle adventures of a good conversation.

About the Author:

Daniel Menaker has been a part of America's life of letters for almost forty years. As a writer, he has met and talked to thousands of people about their work and their lives. He is widely read and well versed in psychological literature and practices and, as an editor at Random House, has had countless meetings and other exchanges with writers, agents, public figures, and ordinary people. His own writing has appeared in the New Yorker, the New York Times, and Slate; he lives in New York with his wife and their two children.

My Review:

I really enjoyed reading A Good Talk, actually more than I thought I would! I was afraid it would be another one of those textbook-like books and god knows as a university student I read enough textbooks as it is! But I was very happy to start reading the book and realize that although I was reading it was almost as if Daniel the authour was having a conversation with me about the topic of conversation. This book is well thought out and researched and I really loved how he added the whole history of conversation, from the beginings of mankind all the way to today. Daniel keeps the text relatable by adding in examples of conversations that he has had in the past and it is quite fascinating to read about what happened within the conversation.

A Good Talk is a refreshing take on a human interaction that we often overlook. This book is a great reminder that sometimes it is best to put down our phones, and close our emails and actually talk to a person face to face. This is one great lesson that I will take away from the book!

You can find A Good Talk at your nearest book retailer or online!

I'd like to thank Anna over at the
Hachette Book Group for giving me the opportunity to review such an interesting book!

*Disclosure: Please note that I was not given any monetary compensation in order to do this review. I was only sent a copy of A Good Talk in order to conduct a reliable review. All opinions expressed within this post are that of my own.

eShakti Review

As much as I want it to be, winter isn't over! The best way to make winter bearable in my opinion is being able to be nice and bundled up so that the chill can't get you. A great place to find the clothes that will not only keep you warm but stylish is a great online shop, eShakti.

Now some of you, myself included may usually be wary of purchasing any clothes online simply for the fact that we would hate to get the package in the mail and to open it up to your new shirt, dress, pants or jacket and to put it on only in the realization that it doesn't fit!! I think that is one of my biggest fears when shopping online and I'm very reluctant to purchase any clothes without trying them on first. But with eShakti you should have no fear at all because everything you buy from them is literally made for you! The clothing on thier site is literally made to meet your body's exact measurements! Which means that it will fit you better than any off the rack piece of clothing you can ge In fact eShakti offers a large selection of stylish clothing for women in sizes 0-26W!! eShakti offers custom sizes, as well as the regular standard sizes. I love how they will customize any piece to fit your shape perfectly. This means you do not have to go to the tailor to get your clothing to fit you perfectly!!

I was so lucky to be able to choose something from eShakti to do my review on! It was so difficult to choose something because they truly have some amazing designs and everything is so reasonably priced as well!!! In fact nothing on the eShakti site cost over $120!! I decided upon getting a jacket since it is winter and I find that one of the most used items in my wardrobe are outerware!

The front of the jacket

What the jacket looks like on me!

I chose the Felted batwing sleeve jacket ($89) because I loved the sleeves! Most of my jackets have the more traditional sleeves so I really wanted to get something different to expand my outerware wardrobe! The jacket is made with a very soft felted wool blend and I really loved the quality of the fabric that they used! It was very dense and heavy so that you knew that it was made of superb quality wool. It had a mandarin collar which I appreciated because it did not get in the way and allowed for what I was wearing underneath to be seen. The sleeves are my favourite because they are wide and look quite dramatic! The jacket is then toped off with a belt that can be tied up or left loose.

View of the back of the jacket

The back of the jacket on me!

I also loved the front hook and eye closure because it is easier to fasten the jacket than buttons and it also looks different since I actually have no jackets that have a hook and eye closure. I love the back inverted pleat because it draws attention to the back and helps define my waist even further. Another feature of the jacket that I liked was the pretty ruffled shoulders! The jacket sat just right on the hip and it is fully lined which is another plus! I hate when jackets are not lined, so I really appreciated that eShakti linned their coats and jackets! The jacket was made with 80% wool and 20% nylon which is also great, because it helps prevent the jacket from becoming too itchy! This jacket is extremely warm, although I do need to wear a sweater since the sleeves do not cover my arms, this is a feature of the jacket so don't be alarmed!

Closer up detail of the hook closure and belt

Picture of the side

A warning is that eShakti truly does fit standard sizes, so you really need to know your correct size when ordering! I thought that I was a size two but I guess I really am a size 4! I guess I should have paid better attention to the sizing charts that they provided and answered all of the questions too! So my bad!!! Although the jacket does fit I do feel a bit of a squeeze! But it has NOTHING to do with eShakti, I take accountability for all the blame! Guess it is a great motivation to hit the gym and loose some weight!

You should definitely check out eShakti! They have just brought out their new collection for spring and they have some amazing looking dresses and tops!!! They have also added some great new accesories on their site like amazing looking necklaces! Great news is that they also ship your item out within three days and shipping is fast so you can get your new item quickly!

Look out for a great giveaway from them soon!!!

*Disclosure: This was not a paid post and honest opinions were used. The opinions are solely my own and may vary from others. Thank you to eShakti who supplied the products for the review .

Spammers Strike Again!

Uggh another problem on the Spammers front! I just got an email from a reader who informed me that someone had emailed them with my blogpost link embedded in their message. I don't know if anyone else has gotten an email like this, but this is the first time I have heard about it!

This is what the email said:

Hello.
I am"miss Sandra single, how are you? hope you are fine and in perfect condition of health.I saw your contact in thegiveawaydiva.blogspot.com today and took interest in it,if you don't mind i will like to know you much better, although i came online to look for a true and loving person that is ready for a true, honest and loving relationship, i believe you are the kind of person am talking about,if you don't mind send me a mail now on my private box sandradon40@yahoo.com,so that i will tell you all about myself and a picture of myself.looking forward to hear from you.
Sandra

So please be wary!! If you ever get an email like this with my blog in it, ask me! I will never give your email away to others and I won't send you emails unless you request it! That being the case, stupid spammers can still get your emails when you enter giveaways! So please ask me! I will be more than happy to let you know if it's a spammer at work!

I'm going to email this Miss Sandra to see what she really wants! It really sucks that people especially spammers use my blog for their own purposes or to make up a fake connection. Seriously these spammers should be punished maybe get their Internet privileges revoked!

From now on I'm going to hide all the responses from past contests in the hope that this can further protect my reader's privacy!!

The Cream Perfume Company Giveaway

Ever since I've found out the scary amount of harsh chemicals that can be found in conventional beauty and skincare products I have tried to broaden my sights on more organic and natural products. I want to ensure that what is going on my skin and is being absorbed in my body won't come back to haunt me later on!

That is why I was happy to do a review for Kaponga.com which is the website for the Cream Perfume Company! This is a company that prides itself on maintaining a natural and organic stance when it comes to their various products. They refuse to use harsh chemicals in any of their products and are even certified by Ecocert (one of the largest organic certification organizations in the world) to be vegan, wheat and gluten free and does not contain glycol! So if you happen to be allergic to any of those products this line of skincare will be perfect for you! A huge plus in my book is that they do not perform animal testing of any kind! Yay for them!

The Cream Perfume Company only uses top quality ingredients and the amazing scent of their products is thanks to premium french made perfumes from Grasse. Many of you may be thinking where the heck is Grasse, but it happens to be the fragrance capital of the world! Bet you didn't know that! The Cream Perfume Company is available in many fine natural health stores as well as Sephora the go to place for beauty!

Using French certified oils and natures extracts. These body moisturizers prevent signs of aging and enhances tonicity, elasticity and has desired plump effects. It helps restore dehydrated, sore, damaged and inflamed skin. The line of moisturizers contains no parabens (preservatives) no sulfates, phthalate (typically added to increase flexibility), silicones, synthetic additives, or artificial fragrances.

I was sent a great assortment of their lovely products to test out for myself and I was very pleased with what they sent me! I was sent The Lavender, Rose and travel size Coconut Vanillie body moisturizers from their Body Lotions Line and their Raspberry des champs, Ylang Ylang d'amore and Mimosa bouquet from their Nuts Solid Fragrances Line.

Delivery was quick and it took less time then I expected! I was so excited to open up all of my goodies and to try them on! I have spend about a week and a half testing the products so that you guys can get my honest opinion, and my hands are pretty soft as I sit here typing up this review post! I loved the packaging of the lotions and fragrances. Even though the Rose and Lavender body moisturizers aren't travel sized they are still small enough to fit in a large purse. I loved how they were sealed because it ensured the fragrance. The body
moisturizes smell so good! They truly smell as if the roses and lavender was just picked and magically found themselves in the bottle! Sometimes with other lotions or skincare that have a rose or lavender smell, the smell can seem almost chemical like, but I didn't have that issue with The Cream Perfume Company moisturizers. My favorite moisturizer was the Travel Size Coconut Vanille Lotion it smelled so good! My boyfriend even asked me when I ate coconut when he smelled it on me! I just wish I had gotten the full size version because it was my favourite!

The super generous people over The Cream Perfume Company also sent me three of their Nuts (their solid fragrances) to try! Nuts is a range of little pots of travel-friendly solid scents formulated with natural and organic ingredients in a moisturizing base of sweet almond oil and beeswax. I love the packaging! It's nice light and compact and you can throw a bunch of them in your purse! I also love how it's made of wood! How adorable!

I would have to say my favorite one out of the three that they sent me was the Mimosa Bouquet , a light, pretty floral with notes of orange blossom, mimosa, gardenia and musk. It was a really nice light flowery scent that was not too overpowering and the scent lasts for a while! I also love it because it not only works as a perfume but as a moisturizer as well! The Raspberry des champs smelled like fresh raspberries with a twist!

Look at the adorable packaging!

Head on over to The Cream Perfume Company site to purchase your own The Cream Perfume Company products! As an added bonus they offer free shipping to both US and Canadian Residents!
